Assignment

Roanoke is the station's flagship. The registry lists NetBSD 11, Apache, INN, and NetBBS: web pages, Usenet, and a bulletin board system sharing a ship.

This website is static HTML, built elsewhere and uploaded to Roanoke. The status checker is a separate scheduled job; if it goes quiet, the page keeps serving and Engineering says so.

Service record

  • 2026-10-22: Reliable Link joined the FTN NixNet. More stations on the other end of the line.
  • 2026-10-09: Mail moved to a dedicated host. The log records that Roanoke now forwards and no longer answers port 25 to strangers.
  • 2026-10-10: Nightly backups reported running fleet-wide after a scheduler correction.
  • 2026-10-19: NETWORK XXIII's front door was announced in the first transmission.

The Engineering archive has the operational notes.

Originally assigned a modest workload. Subsequent definitions of “modest” have been revised.
