Away missions

Small excursions through the station. Choose your own pace and mark your own return.

Mission 01

Establish contact

Find a room, read the conversation, and introduce yourself when you are ready.

Required: A browser; follow ChitChat's account prompts at the entrance.

  1. Read the communications briefing.
  2. Open ChitChat and follow its entrance prompts.
  3. Say hello. Listening first also counts as good first-contact procedure.

First contact protocols recommend saying hello. We have tested several alternatives.

Mission 02

Through the door

Enter ReLink and try a door game from its games menu.

Required: A browser and a ReLink account, or the BBS registration prompts.

  1. Read the BBS connection briefing.
  2. Open the browser terminal and sign in or register.
  3. Find the door games and choose an expedition. Return through the game's exit command.

A door is a game. The bulkheads remain where they were.

Mission 03

Tune the news

Configure the station's news server and read a discussion in an available group.

Required: A newsreader with TLS support. The browser reader is still under construction.

  1. Open the manual for the hostname and TLS port.
  2. Add the server in your newsreader and retrieve its group list.
  3. Read a group's recent discussion and posting guidance before replying.

There are several decades of conversation. You are not required to catch up tonight.

Mission 04

Know your ships

Read a fleet dossier and identify which ship handles mail and which carries the web services.

Required: A browser and an interest in what keeps the lights on.

  1. Open the fleet registry.
  2. Read the Roanoke and Mail service records.
  3. Visit Engineering to see the recorded mail cutover.

The names are decorative. The division of responsibilities is quite real.
